Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Education and Training
The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting families with children during these extremely challenging times, and as part of our unprecedented social and economic support package announced today, Government School levies for 2020 will be reimbursed.
Many of the activities that are funded by school levies are no longer occurring at this stage, and we believe refunding levies will not only provide some financial relief, but it is absolutely the right thing to do.
Parents and carers do not need to contact their children’s school, as the process will be managed centrally, and the Department of Education will be putting in place processes to have refunds made within 8 weeks.
If levy payments have not yet been made by parents and carers they will not be required to do so, and it is important to note that Government schools will not be impacted or required to meet the cost of the levy refunds.
We remain focussed on supporting our school communities and families in these challenging times and thank parents, teachers and the education community for their enduring support of our young people.
Our Government will do everything it can to manage and mitigate the economic and social impacts of coronavirus, and we will come out the other side.
